Highlights
of YESS activities in the previous years: |
| A
hike for getaway and environment organized
in YESS: |
YESS
organized a hiking tour to Nagi Gumpa on
7th October with the slogan “Hike
for getaway and environment”. The
program involved a group of 32 young participants,
some of whom were from different organizations
such as MAPS (Multi-disciplinary Academic
Perspectives). The head-point of the hike
was chosen as Boudha Gate, which we left
at 8.00 a.m., walking the route via Kapan
Monastery. YESS T-shirts were practically
compulsory, which demonstrated the solidarity
to the program. The hike lasted for almost
4 hours, until everyone reached our final
destination. The trail that led to the Nagi-Gump
(nunnery) always offered us exciting views
around the Katmandu Valley and an introduction
to how much of Nepal's beauty could be witnessed
within an hour of the city. About every
10 to 20 minutes, we were called to take
a break, not to rest, but to enjoy the views. |

| Celebration
to honor the International Students Award
2006 winner in the UK: |
|
|
Jointly
with Nepal Yolmo Social Service Association,
Yolmo Foundation, Yolmo Social Service Center,
Dhingsang Yolmo and Yolmo Student's organization,
YESS organized a grand celebration for the
Winner of the International Students Award
2006. An ex-president of YESS, Tsering Lama,
who is studying in the UK at Northumbria
University, was awarded the Shining Award
organized by British Council. If it were
not enough reason to congratulate Tsering
while he was on a weeklong vacation in Kathmandu,
we also celebrated his once-in-a- lifetime
opportunity of meeting Mr. Tony Blair personally.
Beyond that, his university also announced
20 Scholarships for Nepalese students interested
in studying there under his name: “Tsering
Lama Northumbria University Scholarship
2006.” This may be the highest achievement
any student could earn in their life. |

| Honour
to the Everest marathon winner 2005, Mr. Tshering
Lama: |
Runner
Tsering Lama, a YESS member who won the
trophy for Everest Marathon competition
(allegedly the highest marathon competition
in the world), was congratulated among a
large number of friends and guests. He set
the record at 3.42 hrs to complete the distance,
toppling the previous record of 3.50 minutes.
The director of the German-Nepal Athletic
Association, Mr Gunder Lunge, was invited
as the Chief Guest and several other guests
from various organizations joined in the
program. He is among the first in the Yolmo
community to achieve such a success in the
field of sports.
