Yangrima
Ex-student Society (YESS) was established in 2000
and gained legal approval in 2003 as a non-government
and not-for-profit organization. It is an organization
grown out of the spirit of the alumni/ae of Yangrima
School situated in Helambu, north of Kathmandu.
In the initial days, our aims were to build a platform
for ex-students of Yangrima to get together, inform
each other about various scholarships, counsel each
other about academic institutions in Kathmandu,
and establish an IT center. Later on, after the
forced closure of the Yangrima School
in 2001 and as we went on growing in the city, we
felt the need to extend our aims and objectives.
Today, YESS is successful as an organization providing
a platform for all of the students of the Helambu
region to learn and grow together. This means that
YESS membership is also open to non-Yangrima students
who believe in our vision. |
Vision:
YESS envisions a strong, united, well-functioning
organization committed to a wide range of educational
development activities, thereby building the capacity
and confidence of its members to achieve our shared
goals and develop innovative ideas to prosper in
the global society. |
Mission:
The mission of YESS is to provide resources
for quality higher education for children in the
Helambu region, and one way to ensure this is by
reopening the Yangrima School. |
Root
and Aim:
Yangrima Ex-Students Society (YESS) was conceived
in 2000 after the first batch of SLC graduates from
Yangrima arrived in Kathmandu to create a platform
to inform and counsel others about higher study
and scholarship opportunities for future Yangrima
graduates. During that time, Yangrima School was
running well and we thought about building YESS
as a resource center for Yangrima in the future.
A group of ex-students arrived in the city under
the leadership of Tshering Lama (Captain) in search
of higher education and felt the urgent need to
form a committee for Yangrima Ex-students Society
after facing many challenges for students coming
from a remote village living simple life. At that
time, YESS received warm support and guidance from
Gopal Lama, the founder of Yangrima School, for
allowing the Yangrima School Office to be used as
a YESS meeting center; otherwise, we would have
been floating from one place to another(often at
Tshering’s home) until we established one
for ourselves. |
Principles:
YESS is basically guided by the following
principles:
That we will always look back to the way we have
come.
That we combine our hearts and minds to get work
done.
That we are more friends than members of the organization.
That we learn and grow locally and intermingle globally.
That we will move fast and try not to leave anybody
behind.
That no one of us can be stronger than all of us
together. |
