Many
world citizens have been constantly working on reducing
the poverty gap and to making life more comfortable
for all. However, much of the effort has been to
no avail. Here in this remote corner of the world,
we're trying hard to connect and communicate with
the world outside to facilitate long-term achievement,
better our understanding of life and contribute
to creating an opportunity for children to develop
through the avenue of education.
This is our call and call to Reopen Yangrima School
in a beautiful and remote Nepal. |

| Education
is the foundation and gateway to every success
|
| Reopening
of Yangrima School has been the much-awaited project
for Yangrima Ex-Students Society (YESS). In these
years, there was not a day that YESS did not think
of this project, and we have grown up with different
ideas about it. It was a terrible feeling for us in
the beginning years to live with the fact that Yangrima
School was not in operation, when we could hear many
of our friends talk about their School. For anybody
who spent their precious childhood or a good number
of years in Yangrima School -for some students stretching
up to 11 years- the
forced closure of Yangrima School was
unbearably painful. The incident struck many people
associated with Yangrima School as a great loss. Students
lost their School, principal/teachers lost their job
and dedication, villagers lost their environment,
founders lost their many years of struggle and hard
work, supporters lost their effort and the whole region
lost a centre of education. The only ones who benefited
were the animals who could now use the building facility
after the evacuation of the students and the teachers,
or some people who were animal-like in the insanity
of their misdeed to destroy the School. |
Finally
there is a hope that the School will be reestablished
in the light of the political stability. Yangrima
Ex-Students Society is all geared up to support
with the fullest effort and commitment to rebuild
the School, so that hundreds of our brothers and
sisters who are deprived of education due to financial
hardship have the chance. In order to do this, we
have discussed several different ideas and models
of how to run the School in the context of the present
situation. The most convincing is to invite local
representatives from several villages to form a
management committee to give guidelines and directives,
and protect the School from any future bad luck. |
 |
| Currently,
we are working towards the date of the coming academic
session (by Nepali Calendar ), that is mid-April 2008,
to start operating the School. Prior to this, there
are several things that need to be done. In accordance
with our Model to Reopen Yangrima School ,the most
important task for us is to make sure that the reestablishment
becomes strong enough to weather any similar incidents
in the future. In this regard, we have learnt the
importance of forming a trust inclusive of all the
stakeholders for the School. It is underway. |
|
We
estimate that the first few months or even years will
be challenging for us financially and in every other
way as we are starting everything from the scratch
but working to meet the expectation of quality education
that is the motivation behind restarting this School.
It is also challenging because we are trying to reach
out to several local schools and ensure a fair amount
of support to all of them. Local Public Schools in
Nepal are usually short of teachers and facilities,
and they work in poor conditions. We are taking on
this big responsibility because this directly affects
the long term sustainability of Yangrima School, and
also because we feel that Yangrima School's role is
to help educate children across the region.
Supporting local schools will mean payment of salary
for at least one teacher along with books and stationery
at minimum. Therefore, this project demands a high
level of continuous support from our friends and well-wishers.
